Digital Literacy Community Of Practice

Pioneering Digital Inclusion: First Online Meeting of Ireland’s First Digital Literacy Community of Practice

by | Dec 17, 2024 | 0 comments

In a significant step forward for digital inclusion in Ireland, An Cosán has launched the country’s first Digital Literacy Community of Practice, creating a dedicated space for professionals working to enhance digital literacy across the nation.

This groundbreaking initiative brings together tutors, support workers, librarians, and digital inclusion practitioners in a collaborative network designed to share resources, expertise, and best practices. The community aims to empower those on the frontlines of digital education with additional support, specialised training, and opportunities for professional networking.

The initiative kicked off with its inaugural online event, “Empowering Connections,” on Friday, November 29th. The session featured an inspiring presentation from guest speaker Michael Diver, whose volunteer work with Advice NI and AbilityNet has transformed the lives of disabled people through digital technology. Michael shared moving stories about helping individuals access and use technology in their workplaces, homes, and educational settings. His personal reflections on how volunteering has enriched his own life resonated deeply with attendees, highlighting the profound impact digital inclusion work can have on both supporters and learners.

The enthusiasm for this new community was evident in the feedback from participants. Dylan Casey from St. Michael’s House shared his experience: “Thanks for having me this morning, it was very informative. I look forward to connecting with everyone on the Community of Practice platform 😃 well done to the AnCosán team for all their hard work!”

This Community of Practice represents a crucial step in strengthening Ireland’s digital inclusion ecosystem. By connecting professionals who support digital literacy development, An Cosán is fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing and peer support can flourish. This initiative promises to enhance the quality and reach of digital literacy support across Ireland, ultimately benefiting those who need it most.

Following the successful completion of the pilot programme, An Cosán is now actively recruiting members for the Community of Practice. This is an exciting opportunity for digital inclusion practitioners to be part of a pioneering network that will shape the future of digital literacy support in Ireland.
